Apologies for the delay in posting. I really and truly intended this to be a monthly or so thing, mostly about soccer and me getting out my opinions that weren’t fit to air on the podcast, but as we are now far too accustomed to it, life took a turn.
There have been a bunch of life events in your gorgeous writer’s life. Let’s count the ones since last summer:
In-laws moved into the house
In-laws went to Northern Wisconsin, came back, and gave his wife and both kids COVID, your intrepid soccer enthusiast managed to avoid it.
The amazing writer wins Rent Stability Campaign
Holidays!
My mother diagnosed with lymphoma
Lots of other shit
Ragnar gets COVID
I finally get COVID
And so, here we are. It’s been almost a week since Ragnar has seen his mother, or his sister (in person, thank god for technology).
One of the things I have learned in the last week is that I am a pretty amazing dad. I wasn’t 100% sure before this week, (mostly like 95% sure, but this last 7 days sealed it for me).
We have been working on patience for the last week, delayed gratification, and respect. And honest to Jebus, the kid is good at those things. He also wants to run his head into a pillow on the couch and will just jump from heights onto who knows where (weirdly he finds my crotch way more than a human being should), so… kinda like his dad, can’t really give him shit for that now, can I?
I didn’t anticipate this part of fatherhood. Of seeing your kid who is basically just a slingshot of you, throwing themselves into any and every circumstance. I don’t really have a toddler anymore, I mostly have a person. I am super excited about that and also fucking terrified.
And then there is Clara. Hopefully, her mother has more influence over her than I did with Ragnar.
